AdBlue In Your Diesel

All over Wiltshire we have identified increasingly more cases of AdBlue contamination whereby someone has poured AdBlue straight into their diesel fuel tank. This is mostly a result of people being unsure of the right way to work with it (remember: it's not a fuel additive), and to some extent because the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are frequently directly close to each other on the car.

So, what exactly is the problem with putting AdBlue in a diesel tank? Seeing that the product is primarily deionised water, it is actually nearly as good as putting water in your tank. Diesel and water really do not blend in any way and trying to run a diesel car on water does not work. In addition to this, the urea is seriously corrosive to your fuel system hoses and seals and is prone to crystallisation, blocking injectors and fuel filters.

In the case you poured AdBlue into a fuel tank remove it immediately. And certainly don't start up the car - not even to move it to a parking spot. If perhaps you have started the vehicle you would very likely have to have the complete fuel system purged and fuel filters changed.

Water contaminated fuel
